Case Study
Ryton & District Angling Club, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear
Ryton & District Angling Club fish in Tilcon Pond, an old flooded quarry near Blaydon, Tyne & Wear. Lottery Funding has enabled them to develop the site by installing fishing pegs and improving access with new footpaths and steps.
Marmax Products Ltd recycled plastic fishing pegs were chosen for their ability to withstand the damp conditions without rotting or leaching chemicals into the environment.
The pond often floods in winter, completely immersing the fishing pegs. The conditions are challenging but the recycled plastic is unaffected by the water and needs no painting or staining for protection. This means very little maintenance and a long life.

Colin Wilkinson, Treasurer said
'Ryton and District Club Committee are committed to looking after the environment and are very impressed with Marmax in expanding their product range into fishing platforms. This product is very durable and has a long life span as they are made from recycled plastics which help the environment. They will last for years without deterioration and constant maintenance, not like wooden platforms which will rot and require constant maintenance which will have annual costs to clubs.’
One of the fishing pegs was designed specifically for wheelchair access. The platform was made large enough to easily accommodate a wheelchair.
The slope into the water has been levelled by using two platforms with a small ramp between them and toe boards around for safety.
Marmax Products Ltd offers a standard range of fishing pegs, pond dipping platforms and boardwalk as well as a wide range of outdoor furniture.
Marmax Products Ltd manufacture bespoke designs where required.
